Artist Research 5 Gabriele Basilico

Gabriele Basilico studied Architecture in Milan between the late Sixties and the early Seventies.
In 1973, after taking his degree, he started using photography as a means for documenting a political situation.

Gabriele Basilico's work in mainly documented from various places in Europe.
The name of this piece of work is called the 'Uninterrupted City'

This image really inspires me to go to vast places and take breathtaking images such as this photo. I love the way we dont know what these objects are but can be abstracted so we will always have the wonder of awe. the use of light and contrast in these images work really well. I think most of this image is used by natural light which obviously creates the shadow but maybe its a hardened light so the shadow is that bulky and black.

I like all of Gabrieles work and shall be taking some inspiration from then when I take my images.

this one I like because of the various compositions what lie in the image.. I like the way there are loads of lines included in the image; this is fro the road markings and then the street signs. I also love this picture because of the contrast of the image. there are different shades of grey and black in this image which I think it really effective, this ranges from the black of the traffic light to the light of the roads to the deep greys of city buildings.

I love this image because even though it could be slightly edited with the effect of what it looks like i think that it looks really good. The way that the blackness of the buildings is right at the back of the image and then it fades out but more or less 'fades in'' is really gripping.. it reminds me of a film where you see a bad pandemic around the world and its coming closer to you, like the buildings are already engulfed in this shadow.

This image i find interesting because its one of those photos where you have to look at it more than one or you have to keept reading it or looking at it for a specific amount of time and you'll find something new about it each time?. the contrasts of black and grey again in every photo he uses is a big reason on why I love this man work. I like how the floor is dark and the sky is also dark.

Then you have the buildings in the middle. This image is a perfect way to show what Rule Of Thirds is all about, how you have the sky for the top but and then he floor for the third piece and then the horizontal line in the middle where the houses are.

I like how also each building in the image has different specific window shapes and the colours of the windows are different bits of grey and black.

I like this image because even though it has shapes in it and many compositions I like how it has symmetry of each house. If you could repeat anything continuously and get away with it without it being too much then this would be the photo. I do love simplicity photos myself, if I was to make this image better I would take away the bush on the left hand side and the thing on the right hand side also. because it is slightly distracting.
