Ray, his father, and his mother Liz, appear at first glance as grotesque figures, with the alcoholic father drunk on his home brew, and the mother, an obese chain smoker with an apparent fascination for nicknacks and jigsaw puzzles. However, there is such integrity in this work that Ray and Liz ultimately shine through as troubled yet deeply human and touching personalities.
This image is one of his stronger images. although he shot portraits between two people, the thing about Richard Billinghams photographs look like they are actual re occurencies. These image sets are made up they are real and the scene going on in them is /was actually happening. Liz looks vilent in this image which shows anger but his dad doesnt seem to hesitate or show any emotion to her what so ever. You may also think when you continue to look at this image that Liz isnt actually that violent and she might not be violent even though she looks like it in this image.
This image is really good. this would have been a total none set up image and the way he has managed to capture the cat mid air is great.
Richard Billingham always seems to have the same colour schemes going on in his imges which I like and is persistant with.
